Child safety

The top priority in early childhood education  is the children’s safety (National Quality Standard, 2017). At Swan Academy, we make sure the whole day is planned with children’s safety in mind.

1. Safety Checks

Educators complete daily safety checks to ensure the environment meets Regulation 103 for safe premises (NSW Government, 2020). We check for:

  • broken toys

  • Slippery floor

  • unsafe electrical cords

  • sharp objects

  • tripping hazards

We carefully checked the sandpit, fences and climbing areas each morning. This is a daily, simple but important routine that should be followed.

2. Safe storage

To prevent harm and keep everything organised  we safely store:

  • cleaning chemicals

  • sprays

  • hot items

  • adult scissors

  • sharp tools

  • medication

  • choking hazards

These things have separate areas for storage which are not reachable and accessible for children (NSW Government, 2020).

3. Emergency Procedures:

We regularly practise emergency drills so children are ready for any unforeseen circumstances. This includes fire evacuation, lockdown, medical emergency and so on.  Educators guide children calmly, ensuring every child is safe. We keep first aid kits and emergency contacts accessible at all times (NSW Government, 2020).

4. Supervisions

Supervision is another important factor in early childhood learning centres. We make sure that we are not watching children but are aware of things going on. At Swan Academy, we are very strict about proper monitoring and supervision of all the things happening and taking care of the smallest issue to make sure, child safety is never compromised (Australian Government Department of Health, 2025)

5. Child Protection

Reporting is mandatory at Swan Academy. Smallest problems, details, suspicion  and concerns should be reported as soon as possible. We support children through trust building, active listening, being aware of children’s behaviour and habits. Mutual respect and understanding helps children to open up about any difficulties they might have. We respect and protect children’s privacy and confidentiality. All these child protection  policies help children to be safe mentally and physically (NSW government, 2024).
